The School of Education presented the first Marissa Pagli Award to a rising senior, Danielle Scicutella, in the 5-year BA/MAT program in elementary education and mathematics.
Danielle exemplifies the praiseworthy characteristics that were unique to Marissa as a student athlete and scholar—intent to pursue education as a profession, commitment to academic success, and a dedication to health and wellness.
Marissa A. Pagli, who was a member of the class of 2013, left us on February 22, 2010. Her dad, Mr. John Pagli and a staff member at Manhattanville College, raised enough funds to have this $500 award be given each year to a student who best reflects Marissa's wonderful qualities.

Thursday March 26, 2009 - 8:30 am to 3:00 pm
Learning is a product of thinking. If we want our students to learn well and develop understanding, we must create cultures of thinking that actively engage students in thinking on an ongoing basis. This exciting program, featuring Dr. Ron Ritchhart, who is a research associate with Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will explore what it means to have a culture of thinking in your classroom, how such a culture supports student learning and nurtures the development of students' intellectual character, and how you can go about developing a culture of thinking in your classroom and school. Drawing on research from the study of thoughtful classrooms captured in his book, Intellectual Character, Dr. Ritchhart will provide vivid examples and practical instructional tools to make the idea of a culture of thinking come alive. |
