ART BERKE SBM INTERNSHIP PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Art Berke, the coordinator of the SBM internship program, has worked at the highest levels of the sports industry with Major League Baseball, ABC-TV and Sports Illustrated. In addition to his role at Manhattanville, where he is also an adjunct professor, Berke is a sports communications and career consultant, editor and writer. He is the author of five books on sports and was the editor of an award-winning sports encyclopedia for children.

 

 Internship-Field Work/Final Project*

Students completing their course work in the Master of Science Sport Business Management program are required to do an internship. The internship provides the student with the opportunity to link sport management theory to sport organization practice. Through internships, students move from the role of student to the role of professional and, thus, expands his/her career orientation. Significant benefits can accrue to the student who takes advantage of the opportunities which present themselves in various sport settings including the chance to gain valuable work experience under the supervision of a qualified, practicing professional; develop and expand his/her network of contacts and assume responsibility for project development and implementation. 

Internships will be available at an assortment of sports-related venues such as, team, leagues and various agencies and the SBM internship coordinator will work with the students every step along the way. A written summary and oral report of the internship is required.

In certain cases students may elect to do a final project in lieu of the internship. Eligibility is determined on an individual basis.
