Dr. John Shortreed

Dr. John Shortreed,  is professor emeritus of civil engineering at the University of Waterloo, where he was also director of the Institute for Risk Research for the last 20 years. A civil engineering graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Queen's University (M.A.Sc.) and Northwestern University (PhD), John has conducted extensive research on risks in software, blood systems, transportation, medical devices, air pollution, occupational health and dangerous goods. He is the author of three books and numerous scholarly articles and served on the ISO technical committees for Guide 73 (Risk Management—Vocabulary, 2002) and its revision (2009) as well as for ISO 31000 (2009).
