It is with great pride that I assume the role of Director at the newly formed Education and Research Center for Managing Risk. My passion is to build a world class risk management program at the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Manhattanville. The thinking behind the discipline for managing risk has evolved significantly these past ten years notably in countries such as Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. During this time, continued debacles, especially in the United States, have contributed to the need for more robust risk management structures. Under the leadership of Dean Davidson, with whom I have worked closely over the past five years, and that of the stellar Executive Advisory Council, I am confident that our Center will be truly best in class. The members of the Executive Advisory Council represent thought-leaders, authors, academics and successful consultants from several major countries around the globe. Since I know and have worked with most of the group, I can unequivocally state that their commitment and dedication to the risk management discipline is unparalleled.

The Education and Research Center for Managing Risk will be the first of its kind in the United States that takes a truly holistic approach to the management of risk following the principles of ISO 31000. Victor Hugo said many things including "you can resist an invading army but you cannot resist an idea whose time has come". The time has come.
