|Education and Research Center for Managing Risk|
The School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Manhattanville College has launched a prestigious education and research center for managing risk. The Center will provide students and practitioners with skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the professional world.
The market for risk management services is ratcheting up significantly as a consequence of the collapse of companies at the beginning of 2000 (such as Enron, WorldCom), the financial collapse of 2007-2008, continued debacles around the globe from the BP Macondo oil spill, Hurricane Katrina, the Indonesian tsunami, earthquake in Haiti, nuclear reactor catastrophe/earthquake in Japan and a myriad of other events. Continued regulatory pressure by such institutions/regulations as the SEC, the Department of Justice, the FCPA, rating agencies and company stake holders will only serve to augment pressure on Boards of Directors to have more sound risk management practices in place.
