Planned Giving

planned givingPlanned gifts create a lasting legacy that helps to ensure the vibrant future of Manhattanville College.  By making a planned gift that is tailored to your age, your income and assets, and your vision of giving, you can help us fulfill the mission of Manhattanville’s founders and sustain our record of excellence.

Manhattanville College recognizes individuals who have made planned gifts through membership in the Mother Eleanor O’Byrne Legacy Society, named for the College’s fifth President, who served from 1945-1965.  Mother O’Byrne’s lasting legacy is our beautiful campus, as she was the driving force behind the purchase of the estate on which Manhattanville College now stands.  We encourage you to let us know if you have made a commitment to the College through one of our planned giving opportunities, so that we may thank you and recognize you with membership in the Mother O’Byrne Legacy Society.

Below is a summary of the most common types of planned gifts. For information tailored to your unique needs and goals, e-mail Teresa Weber, Office of Institutional Advancement at teresa.weber@mville.edu or call (914) 323-5304.  We are happy to be of service to you, and your advisors. Your conversations will place you under no obligation, and will remain confidential. We look forward to hearing from you.

Giving by Bequest

Bequests to Manhattanville College are a flexible planning tool that may be the ideal way for you to meet your personal objectives while also supporting the College.  If you have a will, or plan to create one, consider including a gift for Manhattanville along with gifts to the family, friends and causes that matter most to you. Bequests are easily created, fully revocable, and can be designed to meet your needs and goals.  Bequests do not affect your assets or cash flow today; however, when they are received, they provide necessary and meaningful support for future generations at Manhattanville.

Giving through a Charitable Gift Annuity

A charitable gift annuity may be a valuable tool for accomplishing your goals of maintaining or increasing your income stream while supporting the mission of Manhattanville College.  In exchange for a one-time gift of $10,000 or more in cash or appreciated securities, Manhattanville pays one or two individuals of your choosing an annuity each year for life.   The amount remaining will go to Manhattanville College.  Payments can begin immediately, or you can defer payments to a date of your choosing and receive a higher rate. You may be able to take a charitable income tax deduction for a portion of your gift, and some of the annuity income you receive may be tax-free.  For a confidential, personal benefits profile and determination of your annual annuity rate please e-mail the Office of Institutional Advancement or call (914) 323-5304.

Giving Through a Retirement Plan or Life Insurance Policy

You can support Manhattanville’s educational mission by naming the College as the partial or sole charitable beneficiary of your retirement plan, 401(K), pension or life insurance policy. This gift is easy to arrange and may help you meet charitable goals while saving less heavily taxed assets for your heirs.  For more information, e-mail the Office of Institutional Advancement or call (914) 323-5304.

Special Opportunity to Give Through Your IRA

If you are age 70 ½ or older, you can support Manhattanville College with a tax-savvy gift directly from your IRA.  Click here for full information about the IRA Charitable Rollover provision.

Giving Through a Charitable Remainder Trust

A Charitable Remainder Trust allows you to set aside a portion of your assets as a significant gift to Manhattanville while maintaining income for one or more individuals and enjoying significant tax benefits.  After establishing a Charitable Remainder Trust with cash, securities or other appreciated property, the Trust pays you (or your beneficiary) a percentage of the value of its principal, which is re-valued annually. At the termination of the Trust, the remaining assets revert in full to Manhattanville. If you would like to learn more about the benefits of a Charitable Remainder Trust, please e-mail the Office of Institutional Advancement or call (914) 323-5304.
