Mary Humphreys was a successful business professional who changed careers to pursue her love of teaching and follow her dream of working with children with special needs. Mary received her bachelor's degree in education in 1997 and her master's degree with honors in 2003, both from Manhattanville. Mary passed away in 2008.
With leadership from Bill Humphreys and Mary's family members, an endowed scholarship in Mary's memory was established in 2008. The Mary K. Humphreys Scholarship in Special Education is the first scholarship established for graduate students in the School of Education. Each year it is awarded to a student who personifies the ideals, compassion, and work ethic of Mary Humphreys, and who demonstrates a passion for working with children with special needs.
Contributions continue to be received from family, Mary's classmates, friends, and business associates, and proceeds from an annual gala benefit the Fund. This year’s gala was held on June 1, 2013 at Manhattanville College.
