Reunion Weekend 2013
June 7-9, 2013
Campus is still buzzing with excitement following Reunion 2013 which was held from June7-9, 2013. The Manhattanville Community welcomed all class years back to campus with special emphasis on classes with years ending in 3 and 8 for their Reunion celebrations. We were delighted to welcome back over 230 alumni for the special weekend. President Jon Strauss and Mrs. Strauss truly enjoyed their time meeting with alumni and hearing about their special experiences as students.
Saturday morning began with individual class meetings during breakfast, followed by our first set of discussions which brought all alumni together. Visiting lecturer in Communications, Anthony Rudel presented a fascinating discussion on “Radio Propaganda of World War II”. Also, Lisa Rafanelli, Associate Professor of Art History gave an interesting discussion on “The Discovery of a Long-Lost Painting by Leonardo da Vinci: The Salvador Mundi”. In addition, Jean Strauss presented “The Journey to Heritage Hall: Honoring Manhattanville’s Legacy”. During this special presentation, Jean shared with everyone the role she has played in the development of Heritage Hall and bringing Manhattanville’s extraordinary legacy to life.
President Strauss gave an update on the College at the traditional Reunion luncheon and shared many of the community’s unique accomplishments over the past year. He shared his vision moving forward as Manhattanville continues to evolve in the global community and the exciting journey for future Manhattanville students. President Strauss also took a moment to introduce and welcome the Class of 1953 back to campus, the very first class to graduate from the Manhattanville Purchase campus, as they celebrated their 60th Reunion!
One of the many highlights of the weekend was honoring our 2013 Alumni Award recipients at the Reunion Luncheon. Alumni Board Interim President, and 50th Reunion Co-Chair, Carol Scafati `63 led the special ceremony. Congratulations to our award winners for their distinguished accomplishments within their fields of work and dedicated service, both to the College and others: Betsy Kyte Newman `63, Distinguished Alumni Award; Diane Cassens Cummins `63, Outstanding Alumni Service Award; and Jacqueline Matuza `03, Recent Graduate Service Award.
Saturday evening concluded with a Gala Dinner in the Castle for classes 1948-1978. Meanwhile, a Reunion Celebration was held in the Berman Student Center for classes 1983-2008 which featured live music and dancing with special guest Rich Harris `05 and his band mates from HI-DEF. The night ended with the 4th annual Throwback Alumni Pub Party where alumni enjoyed snapping photos in the festive photo booth and dancing the night away.
Reunion Weekend ended with the Class of 1963 Memorial Tree Planting, a special ceremony honoring classmates they have lost over the years. Then, a Catholic Mass was held in the Mother O’Byrne Chapel which featured a Rose of Remembrance Ceremony for all deceased alumni. The Mass included traditional Manhattanville Liturgical Music featuring an alumnae choir, led by Barbara Catoggio Kullen `63. Alumni from the class of 1993 caught up with each other at a class brunch with a special family scavenger hunt. All other alumni gathered together in the West Room for a special Farewell luncheon. Professor Gillian Greenhill Hannum shared her experience that she has had with Manhattanville over the past 26 years as we continue to “Celebrate our Legacy”.
We would like to thank all alumni who joined us for Reunion 2013 and hope that your Reunion experience gave you a glimpse of the Manhattanville that you know and love, and the insight into what is to come for the College.
