Sebastian's Bio

What being an alumnus means to me...

When I think of what it means to me about being a Manhattanville Alumnus, the words "You can do it!" come to mind.

This positive saying was emphasized to me many times throughout my years at Manhattanville. I must give credit to Jose Flores, Professor Murray and Professor Bardsley for inspiring me to keep my head up!

During my time at Manhattanville I overcame many obstacles in my life. I had severe anxiety attacks and on top of that I had a learning disability. How the hell was I going to graduate college?

Mr. Flores believed in me when I was in 12th grade when he came to visit my high school in Staten Island. He gave me a chance, even though my grades were not up to par.

Both Professor Murray and Professor Bardsley treated me with respect and always put extra time in to help me when I didn't understand something. I am very grateful for all three of them.

Manhattanville inspired me to give back, help others and never give up.

On May 8th, 2009, 2 years after I graduated from Manhattanville, I published my first book!

Using the Law of Attraction and Lynn Grabhorn's "Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting" (A NY Times Best Seller) as a starting point, I wrote, "Excuse Me, College Is Now". This book is an invaluable, up-beat guide for college students, and their parents, on how to navigate the stresses of college life to enjoy it. Filled with real-life stories (during my years at Manhattanville) and practical tips, this is a user-friendly book that deals with the major issues college kids face today.

alt"Excuse Me, College Is Now" includes advice and tips on:

• Time and money management

• How to deal with exams, papers, and grades

• Social life, relationships, and dating

• Pressure from family to do well

• How to get and keep a job

• How to manage your future
