kim BergerLectureDr. Kimberly Orcutt is Henry Luce Foundation Curator of American Art at the New-York Historical Society. She has organized exhibitions on a variety of topics including colonial portraits, the sculptor John Rogers, George Bellows, and John Singleton Copley. She was formerly Assistant Curator of American Art at Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum, and she curated the exhibition Painterly Controversy: William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri at the Bruce Museum. She has published and lectured extensively on nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American art, and is a past Chair of the Association of Historians of American Art. She is currently co-curating an exhibition celebrating the centenary of the 1913 Armory Show.

Over 30 alumni came together for a night of discussion led by Professor Deborah Saleeby- Mulligan focusing on the emergence of New York City as the center of the contemporary art world. The lecture traced the development of art trends from Abstract Expressionism of the 1950s to the Shock art of the 1990s in painting, sculpture, and installation art. Particular attention was given to the artists working in New York during these four decades and the movements they created.

Manhattanville community members came back to campus for a special memorial tree planting in honor of former faculty colleague and friend, Ed Ryan. Ed began as a faculty member at the College in 1958 and retired in 2000, at which time he was named Professor Emeritus and was awarded an honorary degree by the College. For most of his 42 years at Manhattanville, Ed chaired the Economics, Finance, and Management Department and was responsible for introducing two of its three majors.
