How We Protect the Environment

There is an ongoing Environmental Sustainability Awareness campaign that is co-sponsored with ACT (Achieving Conservation Together) our student-run club dedicated to "greening up" our campus, and the Student Government Association. Motivated by this success and student enthusiasm Manhattanville has joined with other college presidents and chancellors to support theAmerican College & University Presidents Climate Commitment organization. By doing this, Manhattanville commits to taking many steps in pursuit of climate neutrality. Chief among these are to create a plan to achieve and initiate tangible actions to reduce greenhouse gases. The Sustainability Committee is made up of members from the faculty, staff, and students.

Manhattanville completed work on the new Berman Student Center in April of 2008. The building achieved a gold rating from the U.S Green Building Council. View additional information on the design and LEED rating for the Berman Student Center at the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program website.

When possible, Manhattanville uses the services of companies who have eco-friendly business practices and/or energy star compliance. Follow this link to view our eco-friendly vendors.

Light Energy Savings

Manhattanville College is participating in a demand side energy savings program sponsored by the local utility to reduce lighting demand at the college. Once the project is completed we will reduce our carbon footprint by 560,782 lbs.
