Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Gail M. Simmons, Ph.D., is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. As the Chief Academic Officer, she oversees the work of full and part-time faculty and is responsible for all matters that have bearing on the delivery of curriculum and instruction, academic advising, academic support, and academic records and standards. She also oversees the work of Institutional Research and the Center for Career Development.
Simmons brings several years experience as an administrator to Manhattanville. She served as an Associate Dean of Science at the City College of the City University of New York (CUNY) from 1997-2001. She became the Founding Dean of the School of Science at The College of New Jersey from 2001-2005. She then served as the Dean of Science and Technology at the College of Staten Island of CUNY from 2005-2010.
Provost Simmons received her B.S. in Biology at the University of Pittsburgh, and her Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of California, Davis. She has worked at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and has taught biology at several schools, including Manhattanville. Her research was focused on the molecular evolution of transposable genetic elements in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.
Manhattanville College is located in Purchase, New York on a beautiful 100-acre suburban campus, 10 minutes from downtown White Plains and just 30 miles from New York City. It has an amazingly diverse mix of students from more than 30 states and 50 countries. The College has 1,700 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students.
