Yiping Wan, Ph.D.Professor
Dr. Yiping Wan became Professor and Coordinator of Doctoral Program in Education Leadership at Manhattanville College on October 1, 2009. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Wan has coordinated two successful doctoral programs at Roosevelt University and at the University of North Florida. Dr. Wan also led the faculty in the development of the first doctoral program at Kennesaw State University: a Doctor of Education with Education Specialist embedded and with 5 concentrations in Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Education, Diversity, Educational Leadership, and Instructional Technology. Dr. Wan has worked with over 200 doctoral students over the years, and has finished chairing and co-chairing 8 doctoral dissertations in addition to serving on many doctoral dissertation committees. Dr. Wan has a student-centered, faculty-focused and community-minded teaching philosophy. His teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in servant-oriented philosophy, a long-standing oriental philosophy that Confucius created over 2,550 years ago.
Dr. Wan has held several faculty and administrative positions at various institutions of higher education in both USA and China, including two college deanships for over eight years in USA. Dr. Wan earned his Ph.D. and master degrees, both in Educational Administration, from the University of Texas at Austin. He was awarded tenure at University of North Florida in 1996, and was awarded tenure at Kennesaw State University in 2003. His research and teaching interests include diversity and global education; program evaluation & staff development; higher education and administration; curriculum development and instructional leadership; planning & change process; and partnership and community relationships. He has presented academic papers at many national and international conferences, has published over 20 articles/monographs, and over a dozen of book/book-chapters, in both Chinese and English. Dr. Wan was a distinguished visiting professor at Johnson & Wales University, a distinguished international educator in Mainland of China and Taiwan. He has won several awards on teaching, research and services. He trained not only educational leaders, but also business and civic leaders, including MPA, MBA and EMBA students. He also assisted in the establishment of the first graduate program in Education in Belize.
Manhattanville College is located in Purchase, New York on a beautiful 100-acre suburban campus, 10 minutes from downtown White Plains and just 30 miles from New York City. It has an amazingly diverse mix of students from more than 30 states and 50 countries. The College has 1,700 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students.
