Matthew Pauley, J.D., Ph.D.Associate Professor
Matthew A. Pauley, JD, Ph.D, is Director of Legal Studies and Associate Professor of Political Science and Legal Studies at Manhattanville College, where he teaches Criminal Law and Procedure, Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties, Common Law, Political Thought, and seminars in law, history, and literature. A summa cum laude graduate of Williams College, Dr. Pauley received his JD with honors from the Harvard Law School and both his MA and PhD in Government from Harvard University, where he taught undergraduates for many years. He is the author of two books, The President's Constitutional Oath (University Press of America) and Criminal Law: Its Nature and Sources (Griffon House), as well as many articles and book reviews on law and political philosophy. He has recently written another book on Athens, Rome, and England: America's Constitutional Heritage, soon to be published. Before joining the Manhattanville faculty in 2002, Dr. Pauley had about 20 years of experience in college and law school teaching, and he has been the recipient of prizes and commendations for teaching excellence.
Manhattanville College is located in Purchase, New York on a beautiful 100-acre suburban campus, 10 minutes from downtown White Plains and just 30 miles from New York City. It has an amazingly diverse mix of students from more than 30 states and 50 countries. The College has 1,700 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students.
