Colin Jeffrey Morris, Ph.D.

MorrisColinJeffrey FacultyProfileColin Jeffrey Morris is Associate Professor of History.  A native of Blackpool, England, he earned his B.A. in American Studies from the University of Manchester and his M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of Rochester, where he studied under the direction of the late Christopher Lasch.  Professor Morris has published articles and reviews on early American conceptions of identity. His current projects explore the individual in relation to the natural environment in early American religious writing.  His courses at Manhattanville include American Voices, American Places (I: Cities on a Hill and II: Frontier Nation), Early America, Revolutionary America, American Transcendentalism and The Mississippi. Prof. Morris serves as the current chair of the Department of History and Director of the American Studies Program.
