Joan Gujarati, Ed.D.

 GujaratiJoan 130x150 jpgDr. Joan Gujarati is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Manhattanville College where she primarily teaches the childhood mathematics methods courses. Prior to joining the faculty at Manhattanville, she was an Instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University where she taught and supervised graduate students in the early childhood and elementary education programs. Before pursuing her doctorate, Dr. Gujarati taught in a variety of early childhood and elementary school settings. She spent over a decade as an elementary classroom teacher in Andover, Massachusetts. Concurrent with her teaching position, she was also a Mathematics Teacher Leader for the Andover Public School System where she led mathematics professional development for elementary teachers and provided general mathematics support for teachers in that school system. Additionally, Dr. Gujarati was a preschool and kindergarten teacher at the Eliot-Pearson Children's School, the laboratory school at Tufts University, and a preschool teacher at Technology Children's Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Gujarati's research interests include early childhood and elementary mathematics education, teacher quality, effectiveness, and retention, teacher beliefs, and teacher identity. She has presented her research at both regional and national conferences.
