Wind and Large Jazz Ensemble, Jazz History
Terry Reynolds directs the Wind ensemble and the Community Jazz Ensemble at Manhattanville. Currently the band director at Somers High School, he has taught in the Somers Central School District for 22 years at each level of instrumental music, and he served for a number of years as the music department coordinator. As coordinator, Terry took great interest in the use of digital media to advance the State and National Music Learning Standards, to improve curriculum design, and to increase resources for music teaching in Somers. He presented educational sessions on this work at the state, regional and national MENC conventions, and in regional staff development sessions. He completed undergraduate and graduate study at the University of Connecticut and The University of Akron. As a trombonist, he was the winner of each university's concerto competitions, and he studied and performed with members of the Cleveland, Boston, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia Orchestras. He has studied wind conducting with Larry Rachleff, Gary Green, and Anthony Maiello. While in Akron, he studied with Roland Paolucci (director emeritus, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra).
Manhattanville College is located in Purchase, New York on a beautiful 100-acre suburban campus, 10 minutes from downtown White Plains and just 30 miles from New York City. It has an amazingly diverse mix of students from more than 30 states and 50 countries. The College has 1,700 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students.
