Laura Inman ThumbLaura Inman has published an article entitled, “‘The Awful Event’ in Wuthering Heights," in the November 2008 issue of Brontë Studies, an internationally recognized literary journal devoted to the work and lives of the Brontës.  The article examines the central role that death plays in Wuthering Heights and is based on ideas that Laura first explored while taking a graduate English course at Manhattanville, “The English Novel,” taught by Dr. Juliette Wells.  Laura says of the experience, “I had read Wuthering Heights before I took Dr. Wells’ class.  It never would have entered my mind that I would discover an approach to that novel that was new or that I would write an article for publication.  By going back to school for my teaching degree and having the good fortune of being in Dr. Wells’ class, I happened upon the most exhilarating and satisfying academic pursuit I have ever known and I have developed, what I believe will be, a life-long fascination for the Brontës and a continuing interest in writing for publication.”

Laura practiced corporate and securities law in New York City for seventeen years.  Seeking a change in career, she decided to pursue her interest in English literature by becoming a teacher.  Her children, ages eleven and sixteen, and her involvement with their education have added to her interest in working in the classroom.  Laura expects to complete her Master’s in Education within the next two years and hopes to teach English literature and composition in high school, along with French.
