What to Bring

SUGGESTED LIST OF THINGS TO BRING TO CAMPUS

  • Alarm clock
  • Blankets, sheets, comforter, pillows, etc. Mattresses are long twins. Linen rental information will be included in a summer mailing.
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Laundry bag/basket, laundry detergent, fabric softener, quarters. ID cards can be used to operate washing machines. Ask the Office of Campus Safety for more info.
  • Iron/Ironing board
  • Hangers
  • Surge protector(s) (UL approved)
  • Curtains (You may want to coordinate with your roommate.)
  • Cleaning supplies (*there is no cleaning service for rooms or private bathrooms at Manhattanville)
  • Waste basket
  • Desk lamp *Halogen lamps are not permitted*
  • Computer, Printer, 25 ft. ethernet network cable
  • School supplies
  • Shower caddie
  • Drinking glasses/Plates/Flatware
  • Refrigerator     *No larger than 5.0 cubic feet*
  • Microwave Oven    *No larger than 600 watts* (Refrigerator/Microwave Oven rental information will be included in a summer mailing.)
  • Stereo/Television
  • Hot pot
  • First aid kit
  • Shower curtains/Hooks (Founder's/Dammann/Tenney Halls)
  • Fan (Rooms can be warm in early fall and late spring.)

 

Air conditioners are not permitted in the Residence Halls unless there is a medical need documented by a doctor. 
Approval will be granted by the Director of Residence Life for these cases only. 
If approval is granted, students are responsible for installing the air conditioner, as well as contacting the Physical Plant at 914-323-5415 to set up an appointment for the finalized installation to be inspected.
Violation of this process could result in a fine and removal of air conditioning unit.

THINGS NOT TO BRING

Due to the multiple dwelling nature of the residence halls, electrical appliances and/or other items which constitute fire hazards are not permitted.
Items found will be confiscated, a fine will be assessed, and judicial action may be taken.  These items include:

  • Hot plates
  • Candles (with or without wicks), Incense
  • Kerosene heaters
  • Electric skillets
  • Electric blankets
  • Heating pads
  • Sterno
  • Toasters/Toaster ovens
  • Multi-plug extension cords
  • Waterbeds
  • Halogen lamps
  • Outdoor and indoor grills/Camp stoves
  • Charcoal/Propane gas
  • Hookahs
  • Liquid potpourri
  • Unauthorized Loft beds
  • Satellite dishes
  • Window bird feeders
  • Oversized speakers (DJ speakers)
  • Aquariums over 10 gallons
  • Novelty lights (including Christmas & other string lights)
     

The College considers the possession of weapons to be a violation of the law and therefore prohibits the possession or use of firearms, explosives and knives, including pocket knives.
The College also prohibits the use of any other objects that may be utilized in a dangerous manner.
Violation of this policy could result in immediate expulsion.

Students are not permitted to house animals other than fish.
The only exception to this would be pre-approved guide/assistance dogs for individuals with disabilities.
Violations of this policy will result in the removal of the animal/pet, an assessed fine, and disciplinary action which could result in the loss of residency.
