Dear Student,

Welcome to Manhattanville’s Office of Disability Services and thank you for taking the time to view our webpage.  The information listed on this webpage is very important and I hope you find it a useful resource.  The information includes the following topics: 504 and ADA, Manhattanville’s ADA Committee, testing and documentation that is needed to acquire accommodations, reasonable accommodations, assistive technology, and information on how the faculty is alerted to a student’s needed accommodations.  Advocacy is also explained in detail and is an important skill that you, the student with a disability, must acquire.  Workforce Recruitment is also available at Manhattanville.  This is a Federal Initiative which is also explained.   The process for acquiring accommodations for summer courses and the process for transfer students is also explained. The College grievance procedure is also listed.

Selecting a college that has the appropriate support programs and accommodations for you is most essential.  I recommend that during the College application process, you call and arrange an appointment to meet with the Director of Disability Services and/or the Director of HELP to determine whether the programs at Manhattanville meet the level of support that you require. 

As a former Guidance Counselor for students with disabilities, I have years of experience and I know the concerns that you have.  You will see on my brochure and information sheets that I want you to be as successful as possible and have a positive experience at Manhattanville.  You must marry academics with your social life and these daily independent living skills are an important part of being successful in college.
