Virus Prevention Tips

Important: EVERYONE should have McAfee Anti-virus installed on his or her computer and KEEP IT UPDATED. All Manhattanville College students are REQUIRED to have up-to-date Anti-Virus installed on their Computer in order to be on the College Network. Residents of Manhattanville College can obtain a copy of McAfee VirusScan for FREE from the Network Operations Department.

• Do not open any email attachments from an unknown source.
  Even if you do know who the email came from, many viruses are spread through jokes and other seemingly harmless attachments.
• Do not open email attachments that are .exe, .pif, .pcx or .vbs files.
• Do not install any updates that are emailed to you and appear to be from Microsoft. It is Microsoft's policy to never email updates to users.
• Update your Windows operating system with the latest critical updates through the Microsoft Windows Update web page.
• Update your anti-virus software regularly, at least once a week.
• Scan your computer for viruses regularly.
• Contact the Help Desk for any questions or problems related to a computer virus.
