The recent attacks on computers worldwide by numerous viruses shows how quickly viruses can spread and how vulnerable unprotected computers are.

While the majority of institutional systems on the academic side of our network are constantly scanned and well protected, both by networking hardware/software and desktop virus protection, we cannot certify the same for students' own personal computers that they bring on campus and connect to the student network.

We are particularly concerned about student machines connected to the residence hall network and personal faculty/staff machines that may shuttle between home and campus.
