Campus Network & Internet Rules
The connecting of routers, switches, hubs, or wireless access points is strictly prohibited in the residence halls.
Network Operations staff will be checking for the presence of wireless signals within the residence halls. When signals are detected a Residence Life staff member and the offending student will be appropriately notified. The policy is that the student’s room will be searched by a Residence Life staff member along with Network Operations to retrieve the disallowed equipment.
Violation of this policy will result in the suspension of your Internet Service by Network Operations.
Dorm Student Policies
Student computers MUST have current anti-virus software installed and kept up-to-date. McAfee Antivirus Corporate Edition is available to Campus Residents for free from the Network Operations Department. This software can be configured to keep itself up-to-date automatically. Students without current virus protection will have the ports shut off in their dorm room.
Use of the Manhattanville College network for the uploading or downloading of copyrighted material is strictly prohibited. Helpdesk support will be denied to anyone running Napster, KaZaA, or other file sharing software.
Campus Wide Policies
Plugging in personal computers into portions of the network located outside student dorm rooms is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. Doing so jeapordizes the stability and security of the protected segments of the Campus network.
Installation or use of unauthorized or pirated software on University-owned computers is strictly prohibited.
Inappropriate usage of the network include, but are not limited to:
- Harassment of other users.
- Destruction of or damage to equipment, software, or data belonging to Manhattanville College or other users.
- Disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications.
- Violations of computer system security.
- Unauthorized use of computer accounts, access codes, passwords, or other network identification words or numbers assigned to others.
- Use of computer and/or network facilities in ways that impede the computing activities of others.
- Violation of another user's privacy.
- Violation of applicable laws, regulations, or policies.
