Postition: Head Librarian for Collections and Technical Services
Department: Library
Status: Full-time

Manhattanville College is an independent, co-educational, residential liberal arts college of approximately 1600 students located 28 miles north of New York City in suburban Westchester County.

Manhattanville College is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to facilitate the identification and implementation of best practices in collection management, acquisitions and cataloging. This individual will be responsible the maintaining and creating a collection that supports the College's educational mission. S/he should have significant experience with these areas as well as strategic planning, project management, process analysis and integrated library management systems.

The position requires strong analytical and decision making skills, an orientation toward new and developing practices, and an ability to achieve concrete results by motivating and empowering staff and colleagues. A record of professional participation, knowledge of issues and trends, and the ability to represent the Libraries at all levels is essential.

An essential part of the work of the  Head Librarian for Collections and Technical Services will include working as part of a team and collaborating with other professional partners within the library and at the College. Additionally, the incumbent will be asked to serve on the reference desk and teach in the library instruction program.

As a member of senior management, this position reports to the Director of the Library and plays a leadership role in library-wide planning, policy making, and development and evaluation of services

Qualifications:

  • MLS. Specialized advanced degree or equivalent.
  • Two to three years experience in an academic library performing collection development and/or acquisitions responsibilities or directly related experience essential.
  • Other essential skills include: excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to display imagination, ingenuity and humor in solving problems and working with people.
  • We are seeking a candidate who understands the importance of the library collection in the academic life of the College. The successful candidate will have both an in-depth knowledge of the disciplines that constitute the liberal arts as well as demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues and best practices in academic library collection development, scholarly communications and assessment.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position: Annual Giving Associate
Department: Institutional Advancement

The Annual Giving Associate will work in tandem with the Director of Annual Giving to increase the College’s unrestricted support from alumni, parents, and friends by way of the Fund for Manhattanville.  S/he will participate in the planning and execution of a fundraising plan to augment both dollars received, and participation in the Fund.

Responsibilities include:

  • Phonathon Program to include overseeing, assisting in developing training program for student phonathon callers, developing an attractive incentive program for student callers, creating call scripts, and generating analysis reports.
  • Direct Mail to include oversight of mailing lists, collaborating with Director of Annual Giving to write/design annual giving solicitations, analyzing results, and preparing reports as requested.
  • Working with the Director to recruit, train, and support an alumni and parent volunteer network, handling requests from volunteers, coordinating with Alumni Relations to maximize effective use of volunteers for Reunion years, monitoring progress toward Class Giving goals, and developing and maintaining a volunteer recognition program.
  • Other responsibilities to include providing assistance for targeted annual giving programs, designing strategies for recapturing past donors and acquiring new donors, researching and assisting the Director in developing strategies for individual donors, maintaining positive communications with all College constituencies, and performing other duties as requested.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (liberal arts background preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge, or similar relational database software
  • Use of the internet for in-depth prospect research

Position Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Collections, the Library Assistant:

  • Provides technical / clerical support in collection services
  • Performs catalog maintenance work in Voyager cataloging (deleting and editing records)
  • Performs serial check-in and maintenance in Voyager acquisitions
  • Performs copy cataloging using Worldcat Connexion and Voyager cataloging
  • Performs physical processing of materials, including labeling
  • Maintain list of technical services supplies
  • Participates in Collection Services projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Act as circulation supervisor approximately 10 hours per week, using Voyager circulation module
  • Promotes the library's programs and services in contacts with patrons
  • Performs all functions related to circulation of library materials

  • May assist patrons in the use of library equipment

MSIM 5003 Global Financial Markets and Risks
Provides an understanding of contemporary international financial markets, including the international monetary system and balance of payments issues, and the role of the European Union. Emphasizes the rules and policies of foreign exchange markets, international credit markets, and currency and tax issues. Considers the role of financial management in maintaining global competitiveness as well as the problems of short and long-term asset and liability management. Analyzes the risks involved in international business, including foreign exchange and inflation. Provides tools for evaluating and selecting foreign projects and for analyzing political risks.

MSIM 5031 Entrepreneurship: Entering Markets
Examines the characteristics of the successful entrepreneur and the resources and planning required to operate a successful entrepreneurial business, including franchising. Explores how entrepreneurship plays out in the international arena with emphasis on the risks involved. Also explores cost benefits, decision tree models, ethics and dealing with bribery and corruption, and the need for clarity in goal setting strategies with tactical flexibility. Focuses on the production and presentation of a business plan for starting a business in an emerging market as a key activity of the course.

Position: Professional Development School Liaison
Department: School of Education
Status: Part-time (approximately 2 days each week at the school)

A Professional Development School Liaison is employed part-time by Manhattanville College, yet spends most of his/her time at the school site. This person is given 3 credits each semester to supervise student teachers and 3 credits each semester to serve as a liaison between the College and the school district site. This person receives a total of 12 credits each academic year.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervises student/supervised teachers (4-6 each semester)
  • Works with teachers to identify areas of professional development interest and coordinate such interests with College faculty. Develops projects and programs related to teachers’ and faculty’s professional development interests
  • Coordinates any and all projects developed between the College and school
  • Works with College and school administrators to develop and implement an assessment of the PDS
  • Works with College and school administrators and faculty to organize events (e.g., ribbon cutting ceremony, receptions, after-school programs) between the College and the school district
  • Sets the agenda and keeps minutes of PDS Leadership meetings with the PDS Leadership Team that usually includes faculty and administrators from the school district and the College
  • Attends School of Education Partnership meetings, and gives monthly report of activities

The course applies financial theories, techniques and models to the study of corporate financial decisions.  Aspects of corporate policy and strategy, industry structure and the process for measuring and managing the value of companies are also addressed.  Students are required to study an actual firm from the perspective of concepts and models developed in the course and present the study to the class.

MFIN 5102 - Managerial Economics

This course covers the broad principles of economics that underlie and affect all business decisions, such as introducing a new product or service, diversifying, pricing products, segmenting customers, and addressing regulatory issues. Emphasis will be placed on evaluating market environments and the interaction among firms, and on how decisions affect the profitability of the company.

MFIN 5206 - Management of Financial Institutions

This course examines the management problems of financial institutions, with emphasis on banking institutions.  Continuous change in the financial services industry is driven by various international dimensions of increasing competition, advances in information technology, evolution of the security and derivatives markets, and changes in private and government regulation.  How banks and other financial institutions are organized to meet continuous change and what management and financial officers must do to generate success for their firms and for themselves will be discussed.

This introductory level course is a survey of the computer hardware and software currently used in electronic data processing. Topics covered include: data representation, storage devices, input/output devices, computer hardware, operating systems and programming techniques. Students learn to use a word processor, spreadsheet, database, and presentation designer. Students will create a web page.

Manhattanville College is looking for adjunct faculty members with knowledge and experience in the following disciplines:

Position: Adjunct Professor - Freshman Writing Seminar
Department: Academic Writing Program
Status: Part-time

The Academic Writing Program at Manhattanville College is looking for Adjunct Instructors to teach one or two sections of the ENC 4010: The Freshman Writing Seminar in the Spring of 2007. ENC 4010 is a mandatory semester-long writing course taught with a disciplinary focus. Our current instructors teach thematic courses in anthropology, history, gender studies, poetry, literature and law. The instructors create their own course content, readings and assignments, but all sections are organized around the writing of three five-page essays. Students prepare these papers through pre-drafting assignments, as well as two or three drafts on which they receive feedback from their peers during in-class sessions and their instructor in the form of written comments and conferences. Adjunct Instructors are required to hold office hours each week and to attend monthly departmental meetings.

Requirements:

Applicants for the position should hold an M.A. degree in an academic field, an M.F.A. in writing, or a comparable degree. Experience teaching at the college level is highly recommended, and strong skills are required.
