Berger Gallery DedicationPurchase, NY — On October 14th, 2009, Manhattanville College held the ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Arthur M. Berger Art Gallery at the Berman Student Center.  The naming of the Gallery in Mr. Berger’s memory by his daughter, Joyce Berger Cowin, recognized Mr. Berger’s love of the arts and his appreciation of the education he received at Manhattanville as an adult student in the 1970’s.

Arthur M. Berger was a life-long learner who, after retiring from a successful career in business, followed his passion by taking courses in the arts at Manhattanville.  Upon his passing, his family and friends endowed a fund in his memory, which supports the annual Berger Lecture. The annual event brings well-renowned art and culture speakers to Manhattanville for insightful lectures and presentations.

This special ceremony honored the generous support of Mrs. Cowin, a resident of New York City and Greenwich, Connecticut.  Mrs. Cowin has been a devoted Manhattanville benefactor and is an active patron of many arts and educational causes all over the globe.

“My father found a wonderful college in Purchase, with an art program that he fell in love with. He absolutely adored the time he spent on the Manhattanville campus,” said Mrs. Cowin. “It gives me great pleasure to dedicate this gallery in honor of him.”

“We are indeed fortunate to have the inspirational assistance of Mrs. Cowin,” noted Manhattanville President Dr. Molly Easo Smith ”This beautiful gallery not only underscores the strength of our arts curriculum but also provides the opportunity for our students to view and discuss quality exhibitions and collections right here on campus.”

The Arthur M. Berger gallery will feature all types of art work, as well as artist discussions and seminars.  The 900-square foot space is located off of the Berman Student Center’s larger main lobby, providing a greater space for larger works of art and student exhibitions.  Members of the local community are welcome to visit the Arthur M. Berger Gallery.  Information and hours can be found on the Manhattanville College website, www.manhattanville.edu.
