Brooklyn Drama Comes to Manhattanville
My Brooklyn Hamlet: A True Tale of Surrenda by Brenda the Red Hot Contenda
10.17.2007
Brenda Adelman performed her one-woman show My Brooklyn Hamlet at Manhattanville College's Little Theater on October 17 at 7:00pm. A workshop followed.
Part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the dramedy revolved around an unbelievable true story of violence and redemption. Adelman’s jewish Italian father fatally shot her bohemian, artistic mother in 1995. In a bizarre twist of Shakespearean proportions, a few years later Adelman’s father married her mother’s sister. Adelman learned to make peace with her anger and grief by penning this emotionally rich one woman show.
My Brooklyn Hamlet has been performed in cities from New York to Los Angeles. The engagement in October was unique in that a voluntary workshop followed the performance.
At 9:00pm Adelman led “The Art of Forgiveness,” where she utilized her education in Spiritual Psychology to lead audience members through a healing workshop focused on skills such as ‘heart-centered listening’, ‘seeing the loving essence’, and ‘how to ask open-ended questions’.
