Tanzania and its Role in Africa and in the World

Ambassador Augustine Mahiga, Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations, will speak at Manhattanville College on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 at 6:30pm in Reid Castle, East Library.  Mr. Mahiga will address several different issues, including Tanzania’s role in Africa and in the world, the strengths and important challenges faced by Tanzania, and the changes he wishes to see in his country.

Mr. Mahiga was appointed Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations in 2003.  He received his PhD in International Relations from the University of Toronto in 1975 after completing his Masters of Arts in 1971.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education at the University of East Africa.  

Some of his publications and lectures have been on such topics as empowerment of women, globalization and forced migrations, water resources, human displacement and international security.
