AMERICAN ASOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (AAUW)  - STAMFORD/DARIEN/GREENWICH BRANCH

CRITERIA:

  • be a woman resident of Stamford, Darien, or Greenwich
  • be a college junior, senior or graduate by the Fall 2008
  • attend an area college, either full- or part-time
  • must have a G.P.A. of 3.0
  • show financial need

BIG SUN SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:                                   

  • all student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport that they are engaged in
  • the student must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSORTIUM OF HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES:

THEODORE GORDON FLYFISHERS, INC FOUNDERS FUND SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:                                                   

  • students enrolled in a full-time four year undergraduate degree (sophomore level or higher) or graduate degree at  a member Institution of the Environmental Consortium of Hudson Valley Colleges & Universities
  • also available to community college students in their sophomore year who have been accepted into a 4-year accredited member institution of the Environmental Consortium

                                                         

PACE LAW SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTAL CONSORTIUM MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:

  • students who have earned their bachelor’s or master’s degree from one of the Consortium’s member Institutions & have demonstrated an interest in environmental issues affecting the Hudson Valley.
  • scholarship benefits range from $ 3,000 - $ 10,000 towards law school tuition, depending upon the student’s qualifications, renewable each year based on continued academic excellence.  The scholarship recipient will be expected to complete at least one research project related to environmental issues.

BENJAMIN GILMAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:                                      

  • applicant must be receiving a PELL grant or provide proof  that he/she will be receiving a PELL grant during the term of their study abroad
  • applicant applying to or has been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student’s accredited institution of higher education in the United States
  • applicant is studying abroad for at least 4 weeks in one country
  • applicant is studying abroad in any country except Cuba or a country on the State Dept.’s current Travel  Warning list
  • applicant is studying in the Fall, Spring & Winter Sessions (summer programs not eligible)

HISPANIC ASOOCIATION OF COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES   (HACU)

CRITERIA:                          

  • demonstrate financial need
  • meet specified requirements for the scholarship to which they are applying
  • be attending a HACU – member institution at the time completed & scholarship awards are made (excluding international members)    
  • eligibility is contingent on your enrollment at a HACU- member institution.

HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND, INC. 

CRITERIA:                                    

  • must be accepted or enrolled at an accredited Institution of higher education as a full-time  undergraduate student pursuing an academic discipline that will lead to a career in business
  • graduate students & students pursuing professional degrees are not eligible
  • must have a G.P.A of 3.0
  • must be a United States citizen of Hispanic origin residing in the fifty states or Puerto Rico
  • must provide evidence of financial aid – completed application, an official high school /college transcript, a copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR), one letter of recommendation, & a copy of the student’s and/or the family’s most recent income tax return

HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND

CRITERIA:                                

  • have a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. on a  4.0 scale
  • be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident w/valid    
  • permanent resident or passport stamped I-551
  • be pursuing or plan to pursue your first undergraduate or graduate degree
  • must apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA)
  • be enrolled or plan to enroll full-time as an undergrad or graduate student degree seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S.  Virgin Islands or Guam in the upcoming academic year

LIGHTHOUSE INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

CRITERIA:

  • applicants must be legally blind (corrected visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye and/or a visual field of less than 20 degrees in the better eye)
  • applicants must be US citizens and reside and attend in any of the following states:   CT, DE, FL, GA, MA, MD, NC, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, SC, VA, WV, and VT  or Washington, D.C.
  • proof of citizenship will be required of all winners
  • scholarships are based on academic and other achievements, and candidates are not required to demonstrate financial need.
  • previous winners, current Lighthouse employees and members of their immediate families are ineligible.

CATEGORIES:

  • College-bound Award, for high school seniors or recent high school seniors now planning to begin college
  • Undergraduate Award, for college students who may apply at any time during their undergraduate studies

Graduate Award, for college graduates or college seniors planning to pursue a graduate level program

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

  • Completed Lighthouse Scholarships application form
  • Typewritten and double-spaced personal essay, not exceeding 500 words summarizing academic achievement and career goals; include study interests and extra-curricular activities
  • Documentation of current legal blindness verifying the applicant’s vision impairment; statement from ophthalmologist, optometrist or State Rehabilitation Agency
  • Documentation of academic record and current school status; include most recent transcripts and letter of acceptance into chosen school or study program 
  • Letters of recommendation from two persons other than family members

JOHN F. & ANNA LEE STACEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR ART EDUCATION      

CRITERIA:

  • open to United States citizens only
  • both men and women
  • single or married
  • age limit between 18 – 35 years
  • appointments for one year & amount available will approximate $ 5,000
  • will be awarded in quarterly installments at the discretion of the Committee

 

ENTRY PROCEDURE:

  • print or type all information on application blank form
  • submit digital images on a disk representing the best examples of your work (prefer 150 dpi w/ its maximum width or height set to 16 inches – not more than 10 images)
  • print your name, title, dimensions, medium, & date of execution of the work on the disk
  • enclose a good recent photograph of yourself
  • enclose a letter outlining your ambitions & explaining your plans and objectives (how and where you wish to work)
  • enclose and/or arrange to have sent separately a number of letters of reference from people who can evaluate your seriousness & character as to responsibility & perseverance, talent, background & training (at least four from a variety of sources).

UNITED NEGRO COLLEGE FUND

CRITERIA:                                  

  • students must have a minimum  G.P.A. of  2.5 on a  4.0 scale
  • students must have unmet need as verified by the university financial aid office

WOMEN IN DEFENSE

CRITERIA:

  • be a woman
  • be a citizen of the United States

WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT (WIM)  

CRITERIA:

  • WIM  Scholarship is awarded to a woman who faces significant hurdles of either an economic or personal nature, that hinders their ability to finance their continuing education. Candidates must have completed at least 60 credit hours of undergraduate study before applying.
  • Aspire Scholarship is awarded to highly motivated, high achieving high school senior girls from Westhill High School in Stamford, CT.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

  • A copy of the transcript of all college work completed to date
  • An academic reference letter (recommendation from a teacher)
    A personal reference letter (from someone who has known you for a minimum of two years)
  • If you are a student completing your studies in a 2-year community college or continuing your study in a graduate-level program, please provide a copy of your acceptance letter to the institution where you will be continuing your studies
  • Documentation demonstrating your personal or economic hardship
  • A personal statement describing your interest in continuing education and your goals (Please limit statement to no more than 2 pages)
