Accelerated Masters Program for Adults

Jump Start 2008-2009

This intensive program provides you with the opportunity to complete half of your graduate coursework in just over five months – classes begin in the end of February and you are eligible to be in a classroom in September, receiving full pay and benefits.

Upon completion of half of your course work, you are eligible for an Intern Certificate which allows you to teach anywhere in the state of New York for two years. Most of our students begin their careers in New York City (Bronx and Manhattan); however, about 20 percent of secondary students begin their careers in Westchester, Putnam, Orange and Rockland counties. School district personnel make all final hiring decisions.

We provide extensive support for our students as they begin their teaching careers. A Manhattanville Mentor visits students once a week to assist in developing lesson plans, classroom management protocols and presentation skills. In addition, Jump Start teachers attend a weekly Field Seminar where students discuss their teaching with their peers and an experienced teacher.

The program develops a strong sense of shared purpose among our students – all students begin the program in February and share the challenges of an accelerated coursework, beginning a new career, and balancing outside responsibilities.

Within 17 months (upon completion of your program) you will earn your Master’s degree and be eligible to apply for Initial Teacher Certification. The program is available in the following areas:
