Accelerated Masters Program for Adults
Jump Start 2010-2011
Beginning in late February, this intensive program provides you with the opportunity to complete half of your graduate coursework in just over five months. In August, we will apply on your behalf for an Intern Certificate (subject to New York State Education Department rules and regulations), qualifying you to teach in all New York State public schools for two years. Historically, about 80% of teachers start their careers in New York City and 20% start outside the city.
We believe that helping you find a job is part of our job. While our graduates have superior employment rates, it is important to note that school district personnel make all final hiring decisions.
When a teaching position is secured, a Manhattanville mentor will visit you once a week and help you develop unit and lesson plans and classroom management protocols. In addition, once a week, you and your subject area classmates will attend a weekly field seminar where you will discuss the challenges and joys of your first year of teaching.
The program begins only once a year. We do this to build strong group cohesiveness that will continue throughout the program and provide support during your early years of teaching.
Within 17 months (upon completion of your program) you will earn your Master’s degree and be eligible to apply for Initial Teacher Certification. The program is available in the areas of:
