Dave Torromeo

Dave Torromeo has over 22 years of experience in sports business, including serving as Vice President, Operations of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, and 15 years in collegiate athletics and as a consultant.  Torromeo currently serves as the Director, Sport Business Management Program at Manhattanville College where he installed an entirely new graduate level sport business management program (Master of Science). He assembled the entire curriculum, hired all professors from the sport business field and installed a top-notch advisory board with senior executives from all areas of the sports industry.

He has devised and implemented all areas of a graduate internship program, brought in outstanding guest speakers including senior level executives from the sports world, provided on site field study at major sports venues and created a solid mission. In addition to the SBM program, he created the Sport Business Institute and the Center of Ethics in Sport at Manhattanville (CESAM). The Institute serves as a networking component that enhances the experience for students, professors and sports industry executives. CESAM examines the perennial issues and questions confronting the sports industry that impact conduct, character and community and to challenge individuals to maintain the ideal social and spiritual conditions in furthering the cause of athletics.

As an entrepreneurial senior level executive, he has wide-ranging experience in sports and corporate business programs, strategic management, public and media relations. At the Football Foundation he was able to establish relationships with many factions of the football world, including the NFL, a nationally renowned Board of Directors, major college football coaches and administrators across the country.

One of his roles was to oversee all scholarship and grant monies and set up the system to distribute scholarships, overseeing a $10 million endowment, and spearheading corporate sponsorships for the Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana. He worked with scholar athletes and played a crucial role in awarding Jackie Robinson the Gold Medal Award, the highest honor that the Foundation bestows, on both the 50th Anniversary of the Foundation and of Robinson’s breaking the color barrier in baseball and in the fledgling program that allowed players from colleges other than Division I to get into the College Football Hall of Fame (Divisions IAA, II, III and the NAIA). He was one of the catalysts behind the Foundation’s PLAY IT SMART program; an educational program that works to turn football teams from tough inner city environments into learning teams.

Torromeo has served as VP, Sports Marketing for a marketing/promotions firm in New York and as a consultant overseeing programs with Madison Square Garden, Major League Baseball, several golf properties, the History of College Football documentary (aired on ESPN) and others.

Before joining the NFF, Torromeo served as a Sports Information Director (SID) and Assistant Athletics Director for Communications, Marketing, Promotions and Fund Raising for over 10 years including six as Iona College.  He has earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Rhode Island and a Master’s Degree from Iona College and he is authoring a book on the perils of youth sports.
