Play to Support CAST Program

Play to Support CAST Program

You are invited to attend a performance of Love and Hate, a play sponsored by Manhattanville’s Duchesne Center.  Love and Hate follows the adventures of three very different people as they struggle to make their dreams come true in New York City.

The proceeds from the performances will be used to support the Children’s Academy of Student Theater (CAST).  CAST is a Duchesne Center program that focuses on education and youth development in drama and the arts.  Manhattanville students volunteering in the CAST program facilitate theater exercises with local children who might not otherwise get these opportunities.  The students, who are mostly Theater majors, teach the children about such things as scene structure, monologues, and play writing.

“CAST is an important program because it helps the children develop self confidence, public speaking skills and writing skills,” said Craig Donnelly, Community Service Coordinator and the play’s writer and director.  “It is always nice to see that the more they learn about what goes into putting a play onstage, the more they start to appreciate theater as an art form.  We had 30 children enrolled in the CAST program this year, and we will be using part of the proceeds from Love and Hate to buy more props, costumes and sets for CAST.  We will also be taking the children to see a play in New York City.”

Performances will be held in the EX Theater in Founders Hall on February 21st at 8:00 p.m., February 23rd at 8:00 p.m. and February 24th at 2:00 p.m. Admission for everyone is $5.00.  For more information on the show or to purchase tickets in advance please contact Craig Donnelly at donnellyc@mville.edu
