Hockey Number One

Go Valiants! Manhattanville's Men's Hockey Team is first in the nation. These outstanding athletes have managed to balance academics and community service while still maintaining their standing as the Number One Division III hockey team. From Danny Genovese who hails from Hells Kitchen to B.J. Greaves who hunts bears when he is home in Canada, these athletes really contribute something to Manhattanville.

The women's hockey team is also a top-ranked Division III program. They are currently ranked sixth.

The Valiant men are the only undefeated team in the country and boast America's number one ranked offense and defense. Off to the best start in the eight-year history of the program, Manhattanville ascended to the top spot in the polls during the first week of December and have not looked back since.

Senior captain Chris Mills, a political science major from Calgary, is the team's leading scorer with 29 points. In goal, fellow senior Andrew Gallant, an international business major, is leading the nation in goals against average and save percentage, the two best statistical measures of a goaltender's play.

On the women's side, even without a single senior on the roster the Valiants are again in the running for a national championship. Also only in it's eighth year, the women's hockey team is in search of an unprecedented sixth straight 20-plus win season.

Sophomore Alex Blackwell, a native of nearby Brewster, N.Y., is the team's leading scorer with 25 points while goalie Karine Turmel, also a sophomore, ranks among the best in the nation statistically.
