Habitat for Humanity Awards Luncheon

Habitat for Humanity Awards Luncheon

Manhattanville joined other organizations and individuals as Habitat for Humanity celebrated a year of achievements, and honored volunteers during its Annual Luncheon on Tuesday June 5, 2007.  Jim Killoran, Director of Habitat for Humanity of Westchester County, presented awards.  While recognizing the Manhattanville baseball team, Killoran said, "I believe the strength of a great college education is measured by involvement with community service." It was this deep sense of community that rallied 32 members of the Manhattanville baseball team to take part in rebuilding the home of 87 year old Richard Pond after it was devastated by fire last Fall.  "The team took pride in contributing to rebuilding Mr. Pond’s house and they enjoyed the comraderie of working with the other Habitat for Humanity volunteers," said Mike Seminara, Community Relations Director and Assistant Coach of the baseball team.

Mr. Seminara and Mr. Pond are featured in the photograph above, which was taken at the awards luncheon.

Manhattanville College's mission is "to educate ethically and socially aware leaders," and encourages its students to perform community service, which will help them succeed in sports, as well as other areas of life, such as the classroom, the community and the workplace.
